Bulletin Board Guidelines

Display Case Guidelines

Goal

To apply a consistent philosophy to the use of library display facilities in public areas.

Rationale

Primary use of the main display case, other display facilities and bulletin boards in public areas is to focus on Brighton Memorial Library collections and programs as a means of patron notification of library information.

With the exception of the digital display system, secondary use, where time and space permit, is the non-profit and non-commercial display of projects and activities and posting of notices of cultural, civic or educational interest.

Policy

The use of library display facilities is under the sole control of the Library Board of Trustees, with the Director administering the policy established by the Library Board. With the exception of the digital display system, when not in use by the library, the display facilities are available for non-profit, non-commercial exhibits and notices of cultural, civic or educational interest according to approved guidelines.

General Guidelines

  1. The library assumes no responsibility for the preservation, protection or possible damage to or theft of any item displayed or posted. All items placed in the library are done so at the owner's risk.

  2. Display of items or posting of notices does not constitute an endorsement by the library.

  3. Determination of the appropriateness of the display or material for posting is the sole decision of the Director or delegated representative.

Bulletin Board Guidelines

  3. Scheduling will be determined by library staff as time and space permit.

  4. Placement and removal of exhibits will be the responsibility of the exhibitors and may be conducted only during regular library hours.
