The contest is open to all students in grades 6 through 12 who live in or attend school in Brighton.
Students will compete in the Junior Division,
grades 6 through 9, and the Senior Division, grades 10 through 12.
Each Division has separate prose and poetry categories.
One first prize of $50, one second prize of $25, and up to four honorable mentions ($10) will be awarded in both the poetry and prose categories in each division, provided the judges feel an award is justified. The criteria of judging are originality, clarity of prose, and good English usage. Subject matter is unrestricted.
Entry requirements are as follows:
A maximum of two entries in each category will be accepted from each contestant. Only one award will be given in each of the prose and poetry categories to a single contestant.
Submit entries in person or mail to the Brighton Memorial Library,
2300 Elmwood Ave., Rochester, NY 14618, before 6 p.m. Friday, February 15, 2008.
