Goal
To apply a consistent philosophy to the use of library display
facilities in public areas.
Rationale
Primary use of the main display case, other display facilities and
bulletin boards in public areas is to focus on Brighton Memorial
Library collections and programs as a means of patron notification
of library information.
With the exception of the digital display system, secondary use,
where time and space permit, is the non-profit and non-commercial
display of projects and activities and posting of notices of
cultural, civic or educational interest.
Policy
The use of library display facilities is under the sole control of
the Library Board of Trustees, with the Director administering the
policy established by the Library Board. With the exception of the
digital display system, when not in use by the library, the display
facilities are available for non-profit, non-commercial exhibits and
notices of cultural, civic or educational interest according to
approved guidelines.
General Guidelines
- The library assumes no responsibility for the preservation,
protection or possible damage to or theft of any item displayed
or posted. All items placed in the library are done so at the
owner's risk.
- Display of items or posting of notices does not constitute
an endorsement by the library.
- Determination of the appropriateness of the display or
material for posting is the sole decision of the Director or
delegated representative.
Bulletin Board Guidelines
- Notices must be brought to the Circulation Desk not more
than one month prior to the date of the event.
- Notices will be reviewed, posted and arranged by staff, as
time and space permit, for not longer than one month.
- Notices for events held on specific dates will be removed
and discarded following the dates.
- Any notice not posted by library staff will be removed and
discarded.
- For-profit, commercial, personal and employment notices will
not be posted.
- Notices of fundraising events and volunteer opportunities to
benefit non-profit organizations may be posted.
Display Case Guidelines
- Use of the display case is by
application.
- Applications must be submitted three (3) months in advance
of the available date of the exhibit.
- Scheduling will be determined by library staff as time and
space permit.
- Placement and removal of exhibits will be the responsibility
of the exhibitors and may be conducted only during regular
library hours.
- Exhibitors may provide identification on a 3" x 5" card
placed within the display. Inquiries are to be directed to the
exhibitors only.
- Displays will be available for public viewing only during
regular library hours.
Digital Display
Guidelines
- The digital display
communications system is a marketing tool that informs patrons
of BML announcements, programs, resources and services and, as
such, will be used solely by and for BML.
- The system will be
turned on in the morning and off at night by staff.
- The Community Relations
Manager is the point person for all communication displays.
- Slides, as well as
other relevant formats, will be uploaded on an as needed basis
by the Community Relations Manager.
- The Network Technician
is the point person for all technological issues.
- The display system may
not be used as a television unless cleared with the Executive
Library Director.
- Revised and approved by the Library Board of Trustees
