Donating Materials to Brighton Memorial Library
IMPORTANT UPDATE:
Friends Temporarily Change Book Sale Location and item donation guidelines.
Large quanties of book sale donations can no longer be accepted at Brighton Memorial Library (BML) due to the Brighton Town Hall renovation project. Because the Friends of BML no longer have access to their sorting and storage rooms, which were located in the Town Hall basement, the group has had to move to another location to sort and store items for their book sales. Therefore, donation amounts per household are limited to the equivalent of 2 reusable shopping bags full per day.
For specifics on what items can be donated, please go to the book sale page.
The Friends 2025-2026 book sales will be held at the Twelve Corners Presbyterian Church until the Town Hall renovation is complete. The renovation is expected to take approximately two years. Watch the library’s website and e-newsletter for further book sale details.
Thank you for your patience as the Friends adjust to their new, temporary location and to the Twelve Corners Presbyterian Church for graciously opening their doors to the Friends of BML.
When we are accepting donations, you can bring in up to 5 boxes or bags per day (no more than 35 lbs each).
BML accepts in good condition:
Books for children, young adults & adults
Audiovisual materials (audiobooks, CDs or DVDs)
General Interest Magazines from the last 12 months (not news or current events magazines)
Textbooks (up to 5 years old)
BML cannot accept:**
Damp, musty, dirty, or damaged books- these items can be placed in your recycling bin.
Records, VHS or cassette tapes
Homemade recordings
**Items not in resale ready condition will be refused
Donations can be dropped off during regular library hours, however, we do ask that you try to avoid the last half hour before closing. Please give your donation to a staff member. Do not deposit them in our indoor or outdoor book drops.
Thank you for donating to Brighton Memorial Library and the Friends of BML!
The Friends of Brighton Memorial Library is a hardworking volunteer organization that supports and promotes the library. Donations are sorted and sold at the Friends book sales and in the Dorothy & Jack Pitlick Bookstore, as well as via Internet sales. Revenues generated are then given back to the library in the form of funding for new initiatives and for library programming. We couldn’t do what we do without our Friends!
